TWELFTH NIGHT AUDITION DATES: November 17-18, 2026
ONE ACT FESTIVAL, November 13-14, 2025
AUNT LEAF- It is 1910. Annabelle, a quiet 11-year-old, and her depressed and lonely great-aunt Leaf develop a secret ritual of storytelling. Each night the old lady sends the child into the woods to look for the ghost of her dead husband. Each night the girl brings back stories—made-up "proof" of her uncle—to cheer up the old woman. Annabelle's fibs grow into stories, and her stories grow into tall tales. As she wanders deeper into the forest each night, she soon comes to believe her own stories are true. The shared adventure, both dangerous and hopeful, serves as a dual passage for the child into adolescence and the old woman into a more peaceful death. A tale from the dark woods of the Hudson River Valley—and the darker woods of the imagination.
BRIAN THE COMET- Jude's mom is an astronaut, 254 miles away on the International Space Station, so when her father is diagnosed with lung cancer, Jude is the only one who can take care of him. In the hospital, she meets a boy named Brian who suffers from aneurysms and together, they learn about what they fear, what they know, what they believe, and what they hope for.
IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT- Thirteen students are compelled by their dreams to play a game in the woods to keep a mysterious monster at bay. Not everyone gets to play it again.
ACTORS NIGHTMARE- George wanders on stage and is met by stage manager Meg, who says he is to fill in for an actor who has had an accident. George is confused as Ellen Terry, Sarah Siddons and Henry Irving arrive, all apparently about to perform. But what in? Private Lives? Hamlet? Something by Beckett? As each starts playing his or her respective part George tries valiantly to follow them, but is forced to confront his fate as Thomas More in A Man For All Seasons. Taking its inspiration from the nightmare that actors of any background will have suffered – appearing on stage without having prepared

+++ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/NOTES REGARDING AUDITIONS
-Please understand that auditioning for a show here at SHS indicates that you are willing to put in a significant amount of time and effort with our program. Most shows rehearse at least four days a week, and that bumps up to every day during tech weeks (the last two weeks before a show goes up). Some nights/weekends are required as well.
-We use a large panel of judges and include teachers and alumni, as well as community members, to be sure the casting process is fair and equitable. Other factors considered during casting are: past production etiquette and behavior, grades, time needed off for other commitments outside of theatre, reliability, class behavior and etiquette, teacher recommendations, professionalism related to previous casting experiences, as well as countless other factors that parents and students are not aware of due to the sensitivity of subjects. We are proud of our casting choices over the years, and stand by them with pride and integrity.
-Other requirements may include: Production fees, shop hours, mandatory fundraising, etc.
-All cast and crew are required to stay and strike the set closing night of the show.
Below is an example of the casting contract from our last production. Feel free to peruse it in order to become more familiar with what you are signing up for.
